The former German
beast who used to play for Bayern Munich and Manchester United Bastian
Schweinsteiger has announced his retirement from football at the age of 35.
He paid his tribute to
the fans and wrote on social media, “Dear fans, the time has now come, and I
will be finishing my active career at the end of this season. I would like to
thank both you, my teams FC Bayern, Manchester United, Chicago Fire and the German
national team. You made this unbelievable time possible for me".
He also added, “And of
course, I would like to thank my wife Ana Ivanovic and my family for their
support. Saying goodbye as an active player makes me feel a little nostalgic,
but I am also looking forward to the exciting challenges that await me soon. I
will remain faithful to football.”
Bastian Schweinsteiger
made the announcement during his spell at Chicago Fire. He will be best known
for his midfield days at Bayern, for whom he made 376 appearances, scored 47
goals, and won eight Bundesliga titles as well as the Champions League against
Borussia Dortmund in 2013.
As we talk about his
international career, he 121 appearances and scored 21 goals. This makes him
Germany’s fourth-most capped player of all time. His best achievement with the
international team is the World Cup with that he won in 2014.
In 2015,
Schweinsteiger was bought by Manchester United. He made 18 appearances and
scored 1 goal for the Reds. He also became the first-ever German player to play
in United's first team.
In March 2017, he left
the Premier League to join the MLS side Chicago Fire.
During his debut MLS
season, Schweinsteiger assisted Chicago Fire to their first playoff appearance
since 2012 and was also named the club’s player of the season in the year
2018. He made a total of 85 appearances and scored 8 goals for the MLS
side.
